Emma Borowicz went 3-0 as a part of Crookston's 12 wins.

The Pirates compiled 12 individual victories in the Northwest Quad located in Moorhead. Emma Borowicz (So.) went undefeated in second singles to win the division and three different Pirates finished as runner-up.

Although Crookston played each team, the wins did not count for team victories. Rather, one win equals one point in a round robin-esque tournament.

Catherine Tiedemann (So.)
First Singles
2-1, Second Place

“Apparently [Catherine] didn’t have a pleasant time in her first match,” Head Coach Mike Geffre said. “But I thought the two matches I saw, she played pretty well. I thought her net game was good. I thought she did some nice things with the ball when she beat East Grand Forks and Moorhead.”

Emma Borowicz (So.)
Second Singles
3-0, First Place

“I thought Borowicz had some really nice patience, “Geffre said. “She was doing some nice things with the ball as far as putting a lot of balls on the court and moving her opponent around.”

Hayden Winjum (Fr.)/Hannah Street (Sr.)

In two weeks, Crookston begins postseason play with the Section 8A Team Tournament. For Geffre, the main focus lies with ensuring his team mentally prepares for the upcoming rigors.

“We’re working probably more so on the mental part of the game and attitude while playing,” Geffre said. “That’s something that’s a work in progress, but you can still work to make that better by tournament time. A lot of it is just your body language. When you’re not playing well, what are you portraying that your opponent can see? Also, what is your mind thinking and try to change it as soon as you can before it gets worse.”

The Pirates now come home for their final act on their own court on Saturday, September 29. They play in a triangular at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. against Park Rapids and Roseau.
