The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball program continues their NSIC slate this weekend as they trek to Minnesota State University Moorhead and No. 2 Northern State University.
The Golden Eagles have had several hard-fought matches this season where they have been close, but they are looking to get into the win column for the first time in six matches. They take on MSU Moorhead at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn., Fri., Sept. 14 and Northern State Sat., Sept. 15 at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D.
The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with 2-9 (0-3 NSIC). Minnesota Crookston is averaging 9.2 kills per set and hitting .098. Minnesota Crookston has been paced offensively by Deaira Gresham (So., OH, Maplewood, Minn.) with 2.90 kills per set. Porsha Porath (Fr., OH, Windom, Minn.) enters the week averaging 2.55 kills per set, while Sabrina Leuer (R-Jr., OH, Hamel, Minn.) is notching 1.73 kills per set. Kaitlin Sikkink (R-Jr., MH, St. Charles, Minn.) is tallying 1.73 kills per set from her middle hitter position, while hitting .225
At setter, Sydney Kruisselbrink (So., S, Rochester, Minn.) is averaging 7.20 assists and 1.78 digs per set in her first season as the starter.
Defensively, Minnesota Crookston has had a strong start to the season with 15.58 digs per set. The Golden Eagles have looked to Ali Schueler (R-Jr., Lib., Howards Grove, Wis.) for 3.40 digs per set, while Lauren Ulibarri (Jr., DS, Flagstaff, Ariz.) is averaging 2.70 digs per set. The Golden Eagle block is guided by 0.67 blocks per set from Sikkink.
The Dragons are 6-4 (2-1 NSIC) coming into the weekend. MSU Moorhead is averaging 12.0 kills per set they are hitting .172 on the season. The Dragons are paced by Amanda Carlson with 2.69 kills per set. Kaylyn Jenkins comes into Friday notching 2.31 kills per set, while Madison Wassink is averaging 2.26 kills per set.
At setter, the Dragons have run a 6-2 system with Lauren Kieiert and Katelyn Selensky. Kiewiet is notching 6.06 assists per set, while Selensky is averaging 4.13 assists per set. She has lifted MSU Moorhead to a .172 hitting percentage.
Defensively, MSU Moorhead is averaging 16.31 digs per set. They have been led by Monica Vega with 4.89 digs per set, while Kiewiet is tallying 2.50 digs per set.
On the block, the Dragons have been guided by 1.06 blocks per set from Kylie Kanswicher, along with 1.03 blocks per set from Jenkins.
Northern State is off to a great start to the 2018 season with an unblemished 11-0 (3-0 NSIC) mark. The Wolves are averaging 14.91 kills per set and hitting an astounding .387 for the season. Northern State has been led by Hailey Busch’s 4.09 kills per set. Jenna Reiff has also been strong for the Wolves with 3.26 kills per set, while Laura Snyder is tallying 2.97 kills per set.
At setter, the Wolves have been guided by Ashley Rozell’s 12.40 assists per set.
Defensively, Northern State has looked to Jaiden Langlie’s 4.11 digs per set, while Rozell is notching 2.51 digs per set. The block for the Wolves is paced by Reiff’s 1.00 blocks per set.
