The Post 20 team ended their regular season on a high note, but are ineligible to compete in the postseason due to the number of games they forfeited during the season.
Tanner Reinhart homered and Crookston ended the game with seven unanswered runs to beat Win-E-Mac 14-10. It was understood that if Crookston won by at least four runs, they would secure home field in the postseason play-in game. Crookston won by four, but they exceeded the number of forfeited games allotted to a team.
Working around errors and hot Win-E-Mac bats, Joey Doda pitched for the entirety of the game which included three crucial shutout innings to close the contest.
Down 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, Crookston’s offense came alive for a six-run inning that included Reinhart’s blast and RBIs from Walker Winjum and Joey Doda.
The lead, however, did not last long as Win-E-Mac plated seven in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead 10-7.
Gavin Salem, Reinhart, Jacob Miller and Cade Coauette started the top of the fifth and all four came around to score and give Crookston the lead once again at 11-10. Alex LaFrance provided an insurance run an inning later and Carter Bruggeman and Winjum each crossed the plate in the seventh for a 14-10 lead, the amount Crookston needed to host the first game of the postseason.
Doda pitched a clean seventh inning and Crookston snagged their third win of the season. They finished 3-7 overall.
