This week's Pirates of the Week are Brelee Jobe, Brady Butt, Rachel Hefta, Ben Trostad, Joslynn Leach, Tanner Janorschke and Sam Sanchez.

Softball

Brelee Jobe - Sr. 2B

Head Coach Robbe Nessler says, “Brelee is one of three seniors on a young team this year, so her experience and leadership have been very helpful for us throughout the season. Brelee has demonstrated versatility and willingness to do whatever it takes to help out. She has been especially solid at second base with an excellent .941 fielding percentage. She can be counted on to make plays. At the plate, she currently sits at a batting average of .348. She makes great decisions on base and has good speed. Brelee had a great game against Red Lake Falls this past Friday scoring two runs and driving in an RBI. She also played outstanding defense.”

Baseball

Brady Butt - So. P/IF

Head Coach Mitch Bakken says, “Brady is a coach's kind of player. He listens well and makes adjustments. He is the first player to grab gear, help set up the field or put the field to bed after a game. He is the only left-handed batter in our lineup and has come up big in recent games. He has a good plate approach and is a tough hitter to get out. On the mound, Brady has seen a lot of relief pitching duties, but started against Win-E-Mac on Monday and threw extremely well. We will look to him to continue to have good at-bats and performances on the mound if we plan to salvage the season and have success in postseason.”

Girls' Track/Field

Rachel Hefta - Jr.

Head Coach Amy Boll says, “She runs the 200m, 400m, 4x200, 4x400, high jump and discus. We are happy to have her back on the track team this year. She had to take a year off due to injuries. We missed her during that time. It is fun to watch Rachel run. She seems to shift gears as she runs her events.”

Boys' Golf

Ben Trostad - Sr.

Head Coach Steve Kofoed says, “Ben is coming off a sixth place finish at The Quarry at Giants Ridge. His rounds of 76 and 80 were very well executed from tee to green. Ben will continue to improve all aspects of his golf game in the remaining few weeks of the regular season. That being said, Ben will be leading the charge for the Pirates come post season play.”

Girls' Golf

Joslynn Leach - Fr.

Head Coach Jeff Perreault says, “Joslynn is a freshman that works very hard at improving her game. She carded back-to-back 89s in Fergus Fall/Staples this past weekend to help lead the team against some of the best competition in the state. She has an excellent golf IQ and makes a lot of solid decisions on the course that have helped her become the second-best by scoring average on the team. Her game is inching closer to state tournament caliber and her next goal is to break 85. If she is able to, she will be in great position to advance to the big show.”

Boys' Tennis

Tanner Janorschke - Jr.

Head Coach Cody Brekken says, “Tanner is a junior this year, but a first year Pirate tennis player. He has impressed his team and coaches with his success at the No. 1 doubles spot and the No. 3 singles spot. Tanner has been a consistent player all year who has shown up and put the work in everyday in practice and in matches. His hard work and dedication to improving has put him in the top handful of players on the team. That hard work is contagious and you can see it rubbing off on other members of the team. Tanner is a critical member of this team and we are excited to see how he performs for Sections.”

Boys' Track/Field

Sam Sanchez - Jr.

Head Coach Wayne Folkers says, “Sam is a junior who just came out this year. He has been improving each week as a thrower. We are happy to have him as part of the team and look forward to watching him not only this year, but in his senior year.”
