Hjelle hit an impressive .643 in seven games with nine runs scored, four doubles, one triple, two home runs and 14 RBIs.

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – University of Minnesota Crookston baseball player Reed Hjelle (Jr., 1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Player of the Week after a stellar performance in seven games in Florida from March 6-11.

    Hjelle is the first player to earn the weekly for the Golden Eagles during the 2018 season.

    Hjelle hit an impressive .643 in seven games with nine runs scored, four doubles, one triple, two home runs and 14 RBIs. He earned three walks on the week. Hjelle posted a 1.071 slugging percentage and a .656 on-base percentage. He was 4-of-6 with four RBIs, three runs scored and a home run in an 18-11 win over Greensboro College. He finished 4-of-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored in a 7-6 win over No. 25 Seton Hill University. Hjelle went 3-of-3 with one RBI in a 3-1 loss to No. 13 West Chester University of Pennsylvania, the defending NCAA Division II National Champion.

    Hjelle will look to continue his hitting prowess as Minnesota Crookston opens NSIC play March 17 and 18 against Concordia University-St. Paul in St. Paul, Minn. Hjelle is hitting .492 on the 2018 season with 13 runs scored, eight doubles, one triple, two home runs and 23 RBIs.
