Crookston ends the regular season with a 13-13 record and awaits the seeding for the section tournament.

The Crookston Pirates hoped to end the regular season on a three game winning streak and head into the section tournament on a roll. They ran into a Barnesville team eager to end a subpar season on a high note and came up short 57-43.

Senior guard Todd Boerger continued his surge of scoring leading the team with 18. Since his return, Boerger averages 20.6 points per game in the last three contests. Boerger averages 17.3 points per game on the whole season.

Senior center Carter Winand, the Pirates’ leading scorer on the season, notched 12 points to put him 11 shy of 400.

Sophomore center Caden Osborn tallied six, junior  forward Nick Garmen put up five and junior forward Jaden Lubarski added two.

The two teams played a close first half with the advantage going to Barnesville who led 23-21 at halftime. The Pirate offense could not maintain the Trojans’ second half pace scoring 22 to Barnesville’s 34.

The loss evens the season series against the Trojans with Crookston taking the first contest 58-42 at home on January 19.

The Pirates conclude the regular season with a record of 13-13 and a section record of 9-8 going 4-6 in their final 10 games.

Crookston now waits for the seeding of the section tournament to see who they next play. The Pirates currently sit in fourth place in the Section 8AA North Division. The first round of the Section 8AA Tournament will take place on Thursday, March 8.
