This week's Pirates of the Week are Sophia Steiner, Colton Weiland, Aleece Durbin, Leyton Salentine and Walker Winjum.

Girls' Basketball

Sophia Steiner - So. F

Head Coach Darin Zimmerman says, “Sophia has steadily improved this season. She has been a key contributor of the JV team that has had a really great year. Sophia is a team player and has developed some great low post footwork that has added to the ways she can score.”

Wrestling

Colton Weiland - Sr.

Head Coach Wes Hanson says, “This week’s honors goes to the senior captain, Colton Weiland. Colton has a strong work ethic and is very dedicated to the sport of wrestling. He has compiled 24 wins this season and 141 wins in his career. Colton wrestles an aggressive style of wrestling and is always looking to score points. He is currently ranked No. 6 at 138 pounds in class A wrestling.”

Glistening Edge

Aleece Durbin - Sr.

Coach Rachel says, “Aleece always shows up with a positive attitude and is ready to work. She is a great leader and a huge asset to the synchro team." Coach Andrea says, "Aleece is a very dedicated skater who is a positive role model for skaters on the team as well as those who are younger. She is wiling to help out whenever needed and spends many hours at the arena." Aleece is also a competitive individual skater and a coach for the Crookston Figure Skating Club.

Boys' Hockey

Leyton Salentine - So. D

Head Coach Josh Hardy says, “This week's Pirate of the Week is sophomore defenseman Leyton Salentine. Leyton has three goals and six assists on the year for nine points, tallying two goals and two assists last week against Red Lake Falls. Leyton has developed into a steady defenseman whose ability to carry the puck and join the rush has been a huge benefit to us this year. Leyton sees the ice so well, the game slows down for him sometimes and that has been key to him anchoring our top power play. Leyton's positive attitude and leadership in the locker room, even as a sophomore, has also been critical to our success so far.”

Boys' Basketball

Walker Winjum - So. G

Head Coach Greg Garmen says, “Walker has been playing some key minutes for the Pirates as of late. He has been steadily improving all areas of his game. His continued improvement will only help the Pirates down the stretch.”
