Winners of six of their last seven, Crookston keeps rolling with section tournament approaching.

All that matters is playing well when it matters most. Crookston has taken that strategy to heart winning six of their last seven including a 10-0 win over Red Lake Falls.

Junior forward Eric Delorme scored a season-high four times to earn his third hat trick of the season. Delorme leads the team with 23 goals on the season and nearly averages a goal per game.

Sophomore defenseman Leyton Salentine found the back of the net twice and for the first time since his overtime winner against Warroad on December 5.

Senior defenseman Drew Dragseth got in on the scoring with the Pirates’ third power play goal in as many games.

Senior forward Ethan Magsam notched his 11th goal of the year, junior center Brock Heppner tallied his 10th and senior forward Sam Overgaard scored his first goal of the year.

“Sam’s been working hard this year,” Head Coach Josh Hardy said. “He scored one last year, but this was his first of this year. He just banged it home in front.”

Senior goaltender Cade Salentine stopped three shots between the pipes for his third shutout and second 10-0 win of the season.

The Pirates first three goals all came from Delorme and Crookston went into the first break with a 3-0 lead. But Hardy still looked to improve.

“It was a game were we spent a lot of time in their zone,” Hardy said. “We’re usually up and down the ice and transitioning. We weren’t used to so much zone play so we started to get a little too cute with it trying to get pucks to the net.”

Dragseth’s goal served as the only score in the second period, but the Pirates flexed their muscles in the third period and scored six times to equal a 10-0 final.

“We played well, but we just weren’t able to go into the net and bang home rebounds,” Hardy said. “We came out in the third, shot the puck a little more and we were rewarded for it.”

The section seeding meeting takes place today, February 14. At 14-10, Crookston should receive a seed that gives them a home game in the first round needing three wins to advance to state.

The Pirates will conclude their regular season at home against Roseau on Thursday, February 14 at 6 p.m. Senior Night festivities begin at 5:45 p.m.
