Katherine Geist will compete in her fourth straight state meet.

In a day that offered snow and high winds, it is a miracle anyone could run. Katherine Geist handled the unfavorable conditions and placed third to earn her fourth consecutive trip to the state meet.

Emily Gillette also competed in the girls’ race which held 119 runners. Ben Andringa competed in the boys’ 5K and placed 17th out of 146 runners.

Geist finished the race in 21:17 to qualify for the state meet in St. Olaf on Saturday, November 4.

“Katherine is excited to go to the State Cross Country Championships for the 4th consecutive year,” Head Coach Kirk Misialek said.  “We are excited for her as well. She has improved each and every year  and we hope this year is no exception. We like to think Section 8A is a strong section with quality runners. We have another week of training and she will be ready to go this weekend. Katherine will need to run under 20:00.00 to do well in the big race on Saturday.”

On top of the state qualification, Geist also earned a nomination for the All-State Academic Award carrying a 4.000 GPA.
