The Golden Eagles ended their losing streak with a tie last weekend and now look to get in the win column.
The UM Crookston soccer team will look to build off of a solid weekend last week where they earned a point in a 0-0 tie with MSU Moorhead and led early against Northern State, before a couple late Wolves goals were the difference in a 2-1 loss. This weekend, the Golden Eagles will host a very strong defensive unit in Augustana University (8-2-2, 7-1-1 NSIC) and a Wayne State College (3-5-4, 2-4-3 NSIC) team that is coming off a pair of weekend losses.
Last weekend sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Puttin (Rogers, Minn.) made 13 total saves in what was her best two-day effort. The shutout over Moorhead was her first of the season and she will have to be up to the task again this weekend if the Crookston squad is to earn more points in the NSIC standings.
Junior defender Madison Korus (Lexington, Minn.) picked up her first point of the season, on Sunday, as she scored on a late first half goal that was set up by senior defender Maggie Gibbons (Cohasset, Minn.) who also earned her first point of the 2017 campaign.
Saturday, October 14 - 1:00 pm vs. Augustana University
The Vikings will arrive in Crookston after winning nine of their last ten games. They had a nine game win streak snapped on Sunday when #11 Minnesota State knocked them off 3-0 in Mankato.
Samantha Tymkowicz (Sioux Falls, S.D.) has been the offensive leader for the Vikings as she has scored three goals and assisted on three others. Always an offensive threat, the senior forward has taken 38 shots for the AU squad that has outshot their opponents 223-155. Junior defender Rebekah Thoreson (Minnetonka, Minn.) has also scored three goals in 2017, but she has been a little more effective as she has only taken ten total shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Taylor Machacek (Siox Falls, S.D.) has played every minute in goal for Augie where she has a goals against average of .87 and has made 54 total saves.
Sunday, October 15 – 1:00 vs. Wayne State College
The Wildcats enter the weekend games with a two game losing streak after losses to #11 Minnesota State and Concordia University, St. Paul. WSC was outscored 6-1 last the weekend and 15-21 overall in 2017. Wayne has also been outshot 169-201 through their twelve games played.
Two forwards have done most of the damage for the Wildcats with both Hannah Knight (Sr., Omaha, Neb.) and Christina Stasi (Jr., Omaha, Neb.) notching three goals and an assist. Sophomore keeper Rachel Grisham (Columbus, Neb.) has worked the bulk of the minutes in net where she has a goals against of 1.72 and has figured in all of the Wayne State decisions.
This weekend’s games will be the final full home weekend of 2017 for the Golden Eagles as they will play their next three games on the road before closing the 2017 season out back in Crookston when they host University of Minnesota Duluth on Sunday, October 29th.
