The Golden Eagles prepare for a pair of home matches.
The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team returns home for a pair of matches against No. 14 Winona State University and Upper Iowa University. The Golden Eagles will take on the Warriors Fri., Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. Minnesota Crookston then returns to action Sat., Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. versus Upper Iowa University.
Minnesota Crookston enters the weekend with a 4-11 (1-5 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles are looking to snap a four-match losing skid dating back to a 3-2 win over Bemidji State University Sept. 19. Minnesota Crookston has been led on the season by Kassi Green (R-Sr., OH, Anoka, Minn.), who is averaging 4.00 kills per set with a .178 hitting percentage. Green led the team the last time out as she notched 13 kills on the match against nationally ranked Augustana University. In addition, Kelci Green (R-Sr., MH, Anoka, Minn.) has been strong at the net as she is hitting .236 on the season with 2.12 kill and 0.82 blocks per set.
The Golden Eagles are led at setter by Kaycie Hagen (Sr., S, Savage, Minn.), who notches 8.38 assists per set. Hagen is leading the team to 10.8 kills per set and a .151 hitting percentage.
At the service line, Minnesota Crookston has tallied 57 service aces paced by Callie Schapekahm (Jr., MH, Eagan, Minn.), who has notched 12 aces on the season.
Defensively, Maggie Perrel (R-Sr., DS/OH, New Germany, Minn.) guides the squad with 3.35 digs per set. Becca Vandenheuvel (Sr., DS, Cannon Falls, Minn.) enters Friday with 2.51 digs per set, while Kassi Green is tallying 2.43 digs per set.
Winona State enters the weekend with an 11-4 (5-2 NSIC) mark and a No. 14 national ranking. The Warriors enter the weekend averaging 15.3 kills per set and a .255 hitting percentage.
Winona State has a very dynamic offense led by 4.02 kills per set from Danielle Rampart, who is hitting .258 on the season. In addition, Maria Wrage comes in averaging 2.65 kills per set. Maria Fruechte is averaging 2.59 kills per set, while Jordan Runge is tallying 2.24 kills per set, as is Kate Masberg.
At the setter position, McKenna Larsen guides the team with 10.8 assists per set. Defensively, Winona State looks to freshman libero Becca Pagel, who is averaging 5.36 digs per set. On the block, the Warriors are guided by 0.61 blocks per set from Wrage.
Winona State has won their last three matches of the season, including a sweep last weekend of University of Mary and Minot State University. Their most recent defeat came Fri., Sept. 22 at the hands of No. 19 Northern State University.
Upper Iowa has had a strong start to the season as they are 13-3 (4-3 NSIC) and are currently receiving votes in the national polls. The Peacocks looks to 3.39 kills per set from Anna Winter, who is hitting .255 on the season. They have also gotten strong play from Haley Weepie, who is tallying 2.87 kills per set.Haley Poula averages 2.20 kills per set.
At setter, Upper Iowa has been led by Malissa LeClaire’s 9.00 assists per set. The Peacocks are hitting .217 on the season with 12.9 kills per set.
Defensively, the Peacocks look to libero Ashley Larson’s 5.02 digs per set, while Bethany Lovhaug leads the block with 1.21 blocks per set.
Upper Iowa swept Minot State and U-Mary last weekend on the road. The Peacocks were last defeated Sat., Sept. 23 by No. 19 Northern State University.
