The Pirates controlled the ball for most of the game and created scoring chances, but had trouble finding the net in a 2-0 loss to Detroit Lakes.

The game was deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime and for a good part of the second half. in the 66th minute, the Lakers took the ball at midfield and quickly worked their way to the net. A beat defender and one pass later, the Lakers found a wide open shot and capitalized.

With under three minutes to play and the Pirates desperately trying to tie the game, Detroit Lakes found the back of the net again to apply the dagger giving Crookston their third loss of the season.

“We weren’t playing coordinated defense like we have in the past,” Head Coach Don Cox said. “They just weren’t finding their stride and getting things put together the way they’re supposed to. We’ve played two games with two gale force winds, but they can’t use that as an excuse.”

Goalkeeper Logan Wardner had three saves in the five shots he faced.

With a record of 2-3, Crookston will look to get back in the win column against Fergus Falls Hillcrest Academy on September 7. The game will start at 3:30 p.m. at the CHS soccer fields.
