Class A State Tournament begins today (Friday).

    Members of the Crookston Pirates boys and girls track teams are set to compete in the Minnesota Class A State Meet today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) at Hamline University in St. Paul.


    Junior Cade Salentine will be competing in the 300-meter hurdles. He finished second in the Section 8A meet in Bagley with a time of 42.62.

    The boys 300-meter hurdles preliminaries are scheduled to take place at approximately 5:40 p.m.


    Junior Mason Wang will be competing in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. He finished first in the 100-meters and first in the 300-meters at the Section 8A meet with times of 11.18 and 22.84, respectively.

    The boys 100-meter dash preliminaries is scheduled to take place at approximately 4:02 p.m. The boys 200-meter dash preliminaries is scheduled to take place at approximately 6:10 p.m.


    “We’ve had good practices our first three days,” boys head coach Wayne Folkers said of the preparation for state. “I think they’re ready to go.”


    Aleece Durbin will be competing in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. She finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.60 at the Section meet. Durbin placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 45.64.

    The girls 100-meter hurdles preliminaries is set to begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. The girls 300-meter hurdles preliminaries is set to begin at approximately 5:28 p.m.


    Thea Oman, Katherine Geist, Emma Borowicz and Hayden Winjum will be competing as a 4x800-meter relay squad. At the Section 8A meet, the squad took first in 9:57.14.

    The 4x800-meter run competition is scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday).


    Geist will also compete in the 800-meter run. She took second in the event at Sections with a time of 2:29.66.

    The girls 800-meter run preliminaries is set to begin at approximately 11:49 a.m.


    “They’ve been looking really good,” girls head coach Amy Boll said. “They’ve been training hard. They’re very focused.”
