Fall season features two Thursday night games.
The University of Minnesota-Crookston football program released its 2017 schedule Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles will play an 11-game Northern Sun Intercollege Conference schedule, including six home games and two Thursday evening games. One of the two weekday matchups will be a part of the “NSIC Thursday Night Game of the Week” when UMC takes on Wayne State College at 7 p.m. September 14 at Ed Widseth Field.
“The NSIC is a great conference and we will face a quality opponent every week,” head coach Mark Dufner said. “Currently, the team is working hard to get better as we prepare for fall camp and our season opener against Upper Iowa University on August 31.”
The Golden Eagles enter their first season under head coach Mark Dufner, who has served as an assistant coach at UMC for the past 15 seasons.
Among those returning to the team from last year are All-NSIC Honroable Mention selections Adam Connette and Will Cross.
Connette, a senior wide receiver from Corona, Calif., is UMC’s all-time leading receiver with 72 catches for 760 yards last season.
Cross, a redshirt-sophomore linebacker from Turtle Lake, Wis., led the team last season with 90 tackles.
In total, UMC returns five offensive starters and six defensive starters.
The Golden Eagles will face off against Upper Iowa University, Minnesota State-University-Mankato, Wayne State College, University of Sioux Falls, Bemidji State University, St. Cloud State University, University of Mary, Minnesota State University-Moorhead, Minot State University, University of Minnesota-Duluth and Northern State University in its 2017 schedule.
