Despite a 3-0 lead, the Crookston Pirates baseball team could not keep the Fosston Greyhounds at bay and ultimately lost 4-3 on the road Friday afternoon.
The Pirates scored two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.
Fosston answered with three in the bottom of the fifth and a walk-off run in the seventh to take the 4-3 victory.
Crookston senior Blake Kawlewski pitched five innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits, three walks and one strikeout. Teammate Tim Parr pitched 1.1 innings and gave up one unearned run on two hits, one walk and one strikeout.
Fosston’s Brett Sundquist pitched seven innings and gave up three runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts.
Kawlewski went 1-for-3 with one double and two RBIs while Dante Norris went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run scored. Tanner Reinhart, Chris Wavra and Ethan Stroot each picked up a hit and combined for two runs scored and one RBI.
Crookston falls to 4-9 on the season with the loss.
Fosston’s Brock Hemesch went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Joby Buchholz went 2-for-3 with one double and Jesse Sather went 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBIs.
The Pirates return to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 at Jim Karn Field to take on Warroad.
