    • Third Grade takes on scientific engineering challenge

    • On our first 3W day of the year third graders at Highland participated in their first science engineering challenge of the year. Students worked in partners to build a straw tower using 3 feet of masking tape and 50 straws. Students were required to work as a team and keep detailed notes and drawings of their structure as they built. The Minnesota State Science standards for third grade ask that students have basic knowledge of engineering principles, as well as record keeping abilities and group work. Throughout the year on 3W days other engineering challenges will be presented.
