I would like to congratulate the Pirate football team and their coaching staff on a fantastic season.

I would like to congratulate the Pirate football team and their coaching staff on a fantastic season.

We often only talk about the “problem” kids and how it was better years ago so, I would like to let everyone know about some amazing young men who took the lead and really turned this team around.  They made everyone believe in the power of teamwork and how much can be accomplished when people work together to reach a common goal.

I especially want to acknowledge the hard work and determination of the four captains—they kept spirits high refused to let anyone give up, and served as excellent role models to the underclassmen.  The four captains showed maturity, integrity, and character beyond what could be asked of them.  They also showed selflessness and true happiness at the success of their teammates—they did not only think of themselves and how it would make them look good.

I only wish that those “leaders’ we have in businesses, schools, churches, communities, and state and federal governments showed as much character, integrity, and selflessness as these four young men—I believe we would have businesses, schools, churches and communities that we could all be proud of.  Before everyone goes on the offensive, I am not singling out any certain organization -- it is just a general overview of what I have observed in my lifetime.

So for those of you who don’t follow football—a huge thanks and congratulations to the four fabulous captains: Lukas Andringa, Tim Parr, Cade Salentine, and Colton Weiland.  I hope everyone will have an opportunity to work with people who have the character and integrity of these four at some point in their life.
