On behalf of the University of Minnesota Crookston, I want to offer sincere thanks to the fourteen local businesses that participated in the first-ever Crookston Dine Around Town event on the evening of Thursday, September 7. Crookston Dine Around Town took the place of the former RMA picnic that was held on campus in prior years. In this new format, we provided a list and map featuring participating businesses to students, faculty, and staff so they were aware of dining options in Crookston. Our goal was to get them into these establishments, the theory being that if these potential customers are aware of their options, they will be more likely to frequent Crookston businesses in the future.

The evening was a success. Many students have told us they thought it was fun. We know we had nearly 200 students, faculty, and staff complete the passports, meaning they stopped at five businesses that evening. We also know there were several people who didn’t complete the passports but still took part in the event.

Thank you to Ampride, Casey's General Store, China Moon, Crookston Inn, Dairy Queen, Drafts, El Gordito Market, Hong's Chinese Restaurant, the Irishman's Shanty, McDonald's, Mugoo’s Pizza, Synergy Nutrition Hub, Taco John’s, and Wonderful Life Foods

The event was sponsored by the Crookston Campus-Community Connection (C4), a planning group comprised of UMC students, staff, and faculty as well as Crookston city officials, business and community leaders. The goals of C4 are to bring the campus and community closer together, to share information and cross-promotion, and to collaborate on activities and events that mutually benefit everyone. We believe the community has much to offer the campus, and the campus has much to offer the community. We look forward to continuing to build a great relationship between our campus and our community.
