Robert I. Sirek, 90, of Crookston, Minnesota, died Saturday morning, August 21, 2010, at the Valley Memorial Home in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Robert was born on January 4, 1920 at Sherack, Minnesota, the son of Louis and Anna (Kobetsky) Sirek, and attended school at Euclid, Minnesota. Robert served in the U.S. Army for four years, and participated in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was honorably discharged in 1945, and went to work in Minneapolis, Minnesota for a short while. On September 22, 1947, Robert was united in marriage to Dorothy Drumheller at East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Together they farmed near Dorothy, Minnesota, for many years. After retirement, they moved into Crookston in 1992. Robert worked at American Crystal Sugar “25” campaigns until 1986. He loved playing cards, singing Czechoslovakian songs, and was an avid deer hunter and gardener. Robert was a member of the American Legion Post #20. Sadly, Dorothy passed away on February 26, 2000. Robert’s memory will be cherished by all who shared in his life.
Loving family members include four daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Jerry Hoiseth of Crookston, MN, Carol Lautt and Glenn DeVold of Grand Forks, ND, Susan and Richard Diaz of Crookston, and Cynthia and Darrell Payment of Red Lake Falls, MN; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert S. and Mary Rose Sirek of Crookston; seventeen grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerome (JoAnn) Sirek of Annandale, MN, and Earl (Mable) Sirek of Red Lake Falls, MN; sister, Carol Lee of Minneapolis, MN, sisters-in-law, Alice Sirek of Fargo, ND, Iva Drumheller of East Grand Forks, MN, and Rosie (Elmer) Nelson of Virginia, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Besides his wife, Dorothy, Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Anna; an infant daughter, Jeanette; infant granddaughter, Anita Diaz; 2 infant great-granddaughters, Allison Burns and Taralyn Hanson; 2 great-great-grandsons, Jason Isaacson and Tyce Lautt; brother, Edward Sirek; and sister, Helen (Gregor) Weiland.
The funeral service for Robert I. Sirek will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7:00 pm, with a 7:00 pm prayer service, and also for an hour before the funeral at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Crookston Veterans Council. Interment will be in the St. Dorothy’s Cemetery in Dorothy, MN.
