George S. Bryant was born in Duluth, MN to Claude and Ida Bryant on August 13, 1928. When he was seventeen, he went logging on the Gunflint Trail in Northeast Minnesota. George served in the Navy on the USS Jeffers during the Korean Conflict. After he was honorably discharged in 1954 George started his trucking career with Kirvan Trucking in International Falls. Following that, he drove for various companies in Bemidji where he met and married Clarice Erickson on January 13, 1962. After living in various places, including Clearbrook, MN, Moose Lake, MN, Mountain View, CA, and Newfolden, MN, they settled in Crookston in 1965 where he drove for Senske and Son Transfer for thirty-one years. He then worked part-time for Altendorf Express in Minto, ND. After logging more than two million miles, he retired in the spring of 2002.
George trusted Christ as his Lord and Savior in November of 1980 and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Crookston.
George enjoyed berry picking, fishing, gardening and playing with his grandchildren. He and his wife also hosted several foster children.
George died of natural causes at the age of 80 on June 13, 2009 at RiverView Care Center in Crookston.
He is survived by his wife, Clarice, his daughter, Sheila (Kevin) Jerik, his grandchildren: Benjamin, April, Adam and Georgi Wicks, his great-grandchildren: Damian, Kayne, Tanner, Alexander and Meadow, brothers and sister: Jerry, Claude (Noriko), Deloris and Donnie (Mamie), and his nieces, nephews: Stevie, Robin, David, Kitty, Mary, Kathy, Brenda, Butch, Mitzi, Ronnie and Tommy,
George was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service for George S. Bryant will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 19, 2009 in the Bible Baptist Church in Crookston, with refreshments to follow. Visitation will be for one hour before the funeral at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Crookston Veterans Council. Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston.
