Edna (Hoppe) Dennistoun, formerly of Crookston, went home to be with her risen Savior on June 6, at the age of 93.  She was surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Presbyterian Homes and Fairview Hospice Care.  Her long life of faith in, and support of, her family included almost 60 years of marriage to husband Rollin, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Otto & Alma Hoppe; brothers Laurence, Herbert, Raymond and Vernon; and sisters Millie, Alice and Irma.  She is survived by sons, Rollin of Colorado Springs, CO and Robert (LaVon) of Eagan, MN; grandson, Bob (Shelly) Brogren and four great grandchildren; sister-in law, Jean Hoppe; many nieces and nephews, and many grand- nieces and grand-nephews

Edna’s early years of work included working for the Ag Extension Service in Red Lake County, where she met Rollin.  She taught Sunday school for many years, and served as Recording Secretary for the local union while employed at Brockway Glass in Rosemount. During WW II Edna’s work also included reconfiguring bombers at the St. Paul airport.  She balanced work outside the home while continuing to focus on the daily loving care of her family as well.

She took great delight playing many treasured hymns on piano and organ for others to enjoy.  In the last years she provided an energetic witness of her faith in God and her love of music to her neighbors and friends at The Rivers senior residence in Burnsville.

Edna’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 10, 2009, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1214 University Av., Crookston, MN. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-7 pm, with a 7 pm prayer service, and also at the church for one hour prior to the funeral.  Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice or to the Pipe Organ Fund at Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church, Apple Valley, MN.
