Virginia (Ginger Johnson) Dopp, age 78, a resident of Minneapolis, Minn., died on January 9th at home of lymphatic cancer.
Virginia was born on March 10, 1931, in Crookston, to E.W. and Emma Johnson of Johnson's Jewelry Store. She was a 1949 graduate of Crookston High School and was a Job's Daughters Queen and played in the Crookston Municipal band. After growing up on the northern plains she graduated from the U of M School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse. While there, she met Ernie, her beloved husband of fifty-five years.
She was married on June 26, 1954 at Wesley Foundation on the University campus to Ernest S. Dopp. Following graduation they lived and worked in Minneapolis. Together, they raised seven children in beautiful south Minneapolis.
She was a member of Hobart United Methodist Church and later a member of Oakland United Methodist church. She was a wife, mother, registered nurse, caregiver, home CEO, community organizer, after school coordinator, moral compass assistant, spiritual role model, gardener, florist, all the while being on call 24/7 for family emergency care. She loved God, life, her family, rhubarb, lilacs, birds, cats and living things. She honored a lifelong pledge she made in high school to never drink alcohol.
She is survived by husband Ernest (Minneapolis), children: Deborah, Ernest, Bryan (Irene), Frank (Lani), Cynthia, Amy (Greg) and Gregory. She has 15 grandchildren, Alex, Jacob, Miriam, Markus, Ernest Jonathon, Jasmin, Kenneth, Alana, Kayla, Lia, Richard, Kyle, Benjamin, Gabrielle, Clayton. She is also survived by sister Marjorie (Johnson) Dickman, brother Walter Johnson (Roberta), and sister Genevieve (Johnson) Youngdale.
She was predeceased by parents E.W. and Emma Johnson, brother Roger T. Johnson and granddaughter Kayla Dopp.
Services will be at 2:00 pm Monday, Jan. 18 at the Mosaic Chapel zt Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. Internment will be at Lakewood Cemetery, 3600 Hennepin Ave. So., Minneapolis.
She was a ray of Sunshine.
