Funeral Services were at 11:00 am, Friday, September 15 at Sundal Lutheran Church, rural Fertile. Visitation was held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, on Thursday, September 14 at the church, with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 pm. There was also be visitation for one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment was in Sundal Lutheran Cemetery following the service.

Amanda Nelson, age 90, of Gary, MN, died Friday, September 8, 2017 at Essentia First Care Living Center, Fosston, MN.

Amanda Sylvinia Jacobson, the daughter of Jacob and Sophie (Hofstad) Jacobson, was born on November 12, 1926 at Finley, ND. Amanda was blessed with a twin sister, Lorraine, who remained her dearest friend until her passing in 1987. Amanda and Lorraine were baptized at Finley Lutheran Church. As a small child, Amanda moved to Gary with her family, and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, MN. On February 23, 1946, Amanda was united in marriage to Lawrence Nelson at the Sundal parsonage in Fertile, MN. The couple lived in East Grand Forks, ND until 1950, when they moved to the farm in Gary. They were blessed with five children: Wallace, Lois, Lee, Clarise, and Donnie. Amanda was an active farm wife who stayed busy helping with chores and caring for her children. She loved flowers and spent many hours gardening and working in her yard. Amanda has been a member of Sundal Lutheran Church for many years. She was active with the ladies aid and her circle group. She also helped care for the cemetery and church yard for over twenty years.  Amanda had a strong Christian faith and was devoted to her family.  Following Lawrence’s death in 1990, Amanda continued to live on the family farm.  She cherished each of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was always a faithful presence in their lives.  As her health declined, Amanda made her home at the Living Center in Fosston.

Amanda is survived by her sons: Wally (Edna) Nelson of Gary, Lee Nelson of Oronoco, and Donnie (Joan) Nelson of Fosston; daughter: Claire (Mike) Caillier of Crookston; son-in-law: Russel Wilson of Mentor; 19 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; brother: Sanford (Ione) Jacobson of Gary; sister-in-laws: Vonnie Jacobson, Maureen Nelson, and Adele Noss; and brother-in-laws: Russell Nelson and Lyle (Yvonne) Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Sophie; husband, Lawrence; daughter, Lois; three sisters; four brothers, five half-brothers, and one half-sister.
