Kenneth Melvin Anderson was born on September 25, 1944 to Melvin and Anetia (Bruss) Anderson at the Budd Hospital in Roseau, MN. He started school in Roseau School District, but with no Special Education classes offered at that time he was unable to continue.
He lived in Fergus Falls, Brainerd, Karlstad and Thief River Falls. The last few years he lived in Crookston at the Group Home and worked at the Occupational Development Center there. Kenny was nicknamed “Happy” by his friends and workers at Brainerd. He would help feed the babies, help with the laundry and helped in the kitchen while in Brainerd.
Kenny had a real ear for music. Even without training he made some beautiful music and he liked playing the harmonica, piano and most anything he could get his hands on. He loved Johnny Cash and loved to dance, especially the jitterbug. He loved to go to church and could sing many hymns from memory. He was confirmed in Karlstad, MN.
Kenny also loved to travel. He was lucky enough to go to the “Grand Ole Opry”, Las Vegas, San Diego, Oregon and Idaho and had many fun times to remember. He loved dogs with his two special being Puddles and Queenie.
He was a very loving, caring person and had a heart of gold. Kenny was loved by many and will be missed very much but now he can join those who went before him to prepare the path. He will be singing and entertaining those in heaven and all those who knew him will always have a special spot in their hearts where he touched so many. He also loved playing with all of his nieces and nephews from the time they were babies.
Kenny passed away on January 22, 2010 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D. at the age of 65 years old.
He is survived by his mother, Anetia Eiken, Roseau, MN; two brothers, LeRoy (Lani) Anderson, San Diego, CA and Arthur Anderson, Thief River Falls, MN; one sister, Karla Anderson, Roseau, MN; nieces and nephews, Melvin, Robin, Leonard, Paula, Annie, David, Aaron, Jay, Michael, Sherri, Kasandra, Kristie, Jose, and Mary; and many great-nieces and nephews and one great-great niece.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Anderson; step-father, Levern Eiken; grandparents, Art and Bertha Bruss, Arthur Anderson, Mable Nephew; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 29th at 10 AM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Hope Cemetery in Roseau.
