OBITUARY: Amelia 'Amy' Block

Amelia F. “Amy” Block, 89, Grand Forks, ND died Thursday December 29, 2011 at Valley 4000, Oakcrest Care Unit, Grand Forks.
 
Amelia Florence Geatz was born November 8, 1922 the daughter of B. Paul Geatz and Theresa (Bertsch} Geatz in Grand Forks. Amy was the youngest and last surviving member of her family of 12. She was raised and educated in Grand Forks, graduating from Aakers Business College. She married Warren D. Block March 4, 1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks. Amy, together with Warren “Bud” Block raised 7 children and worked part time throughout her life. Warren preceded her in death on July 26, 2006.
 
Amy was a seamstress specializing in designing and sewing of draperies for businesses and homes. Later in her career she received specialized training and worked as a home health assistant in Big Lake and surrounding area in Minnesota. Amy fulfilled her desire of caring for others through her work with her patients.
 
Amy was a member of the Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and the Artists Del Norte. She had many hobbies and specialized talents and was an accomplished artist of watercolor painting. Some of her most loved hobbies besides painting were photography, quilting, ceramic design and musical instruments, especially the piano. The one thing Amy loved most was her special connection with each of her 18 grandchildren and 13 great grand children. She created many happy memories and shared many hours of her time with those she loved. She was the happiest when busy and was a very hard worker who always had a word of support for others during hard times.
 
She is survived by her children: Richard (Denise) Fargo, ND, Diane Baril, Crookston, MN. Pat Bruggeman, Coon Rapids, MN., Curt (Marlene) Block, Maple Lake, MN., Dan (Shelley) Block, Rugby, ND., Tim (Leslie) Block, Lakeville, MN., Therese (Bruce) Brierley, East Grand Forks, MN.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband Warren; her parents and nine brothers and sisters. She is going to the “Great Reunion”.
 
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Mentor, MN.

Visitation: One hour prior to liturgy in the church on Thursday only.

Burial: St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, Mentor, MN.
