Emmet John Vorderstrasse of Alexandria, NE the son of H.K. and Gertji (Trauernicht) Vorderstrasse was born October 20, 1919 in Chester, NE. Emmet departed this life Wednesday February 17, 2010 at Jefferson Community Health Center in Fairbury, NE at the age of 90 years.
Emmet grew up in the Chester, NE area and attended school through the 11th grade.
Emmet married Creta Wills on June 1, 1941, this marriage was blessed with the birth of one son. He was drafted in the United States Army in WWII and was attached to the U.S. Air Corp. After honorably discharged he returned to live in Belvidere, NE and worked in Hebron for Harold Beisner. The couple moved to Grand Island, NE and both worked for the Ordinance Plant, they later moved to Crookston, MN where Emmet worked for the American Crystal Sugar Beet Company as an electrical engineer. Later the couple moved to Lincoln, NE where Emmet was employed with the Brunswick Company. Upon retirement the couple moved to Alexandria, NE.
Emmet enjoyed hunting, fishing, and motor cycle riding, spending many weekend with his grandson on the motor cycle exploring all the dirt roads.
He was a life time member of the V.F.W.
Emmet was preceded in death by brothers Alfred, Eric, Gary, Paul, Walter, and Ernest Vorderstrasse, sisters Leotha Rust, Sadie Zimke, and Irene Redtz.
Emmet is survived by his wife Creta Vorderstrasse of Alexandria, NE, son Dail Vorderstrasse and wife Stella of Alexandria, NE, grandchildren Bradley Vorderstrasse and wife Gina, Jarrod Vorderstrasse and wife Becky, and Todd Vorderstrasse and wife Diane, great-grandchildren Paige, Britney, Samantha, Justin, and Hanna Vorderstrasse, and Tyson and Preston Gillam, and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held this Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. At the Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, NE. Officiants pastors Eldon and Mary Beth Nicholson, casket bearers; Matt VanWesten, Roger VanWesten, Steve Deger, Dean Endorf, Bob Bachle and Bob Milius. Organist Jean Pletcher, congregational hymns, “In The Garden”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace”. Visitation on Friday from 9:00 A.M. To 7:00 P.M. At Hebron Memorial Funeral Home in Hebron, NE. Military Graveside by Hebron American Legion Saxton Post #180 and Alexandria American Legion Post #192.
