Martin Bondley, 82, Bismarck, passed away peacefully in his sleep and went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2012 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wed. January 18, at 1 p.m. at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Eberle officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Crookston, MN.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home with a rosary and prayer service at 7pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Martin was born to Casper and Elise Marie (Lund) Bondley on September 11, 1929 in Wibaux, MT. During the depression years, his family moved to a farm near Thief River Falls MN. At the age of 14 he went back to Eastern Montana north of Wibaux and worked for 3 years on his Uncle Halvor Dahl’s farm. He bought his first car and drove back home and shortly thereafter joined the United States Army. He marched in many places around the world most notably with Gen. MacCarthur in Japan in 1949. He finished his career at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
He was honorably discharged and went back home and married Lorraine Huot on May 30, 1953 in Thief River Falls, MN. They moved to Crookston, MN where he worked for the Great Northern RR and Crookston Millworks where he learned the carpentry trade. He built a house for his family in Crookston where 6 of his 7 children were born.
In the summer of 1961, he moved his family to the land that he loved, to Glendive MT, where the youngest of his seven children was born. He worked for Northern Pacific Railroad as a carpenter and built many items out of wood that are still in place from Billings to Mandan. He also built many kitchen cabinets for people in Glendive which enabled him to take his family on many vacation trips and to do the hunting that he enjoyed so much!
In the summer of 1974 they came to Bismarck with their three youngest children and he got back on the Burlington Northern RR in the fall as the B & B foreman. Some duties that they had was to maintain and install bridges on the main tracks and to paint the bridge that spans the Missouri River.
Martin was a skilled wood worker and made many fine dressers, desks, headboards and tables over the years. But he always said that his greatest accomplishment in life was his children. Martin enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved his family gatherings that always ended up with marathon games of pinochle!!! He lost the foundation and stability of his world, his wife Lorraine, in the early morning hours of September 5, 2002.

Martin is survived by six children, Marilyn (Lee) Wegmann, Glendive MT; Veronica (Scott) Hedlind, Las Vegas NV; Chuck (Diane) Bondley, Glendive, MT; Keith (Darlene) Bondley, Bismarck ; Doug (Mari) Bondley, Bismarck ; Regina (Mac) McQueen, Las Vegas NV; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, brother, Roy (Delores) Bondley, Elbow Lake MN; sisters Myrt ( Stanley) Robison, West Fargo ND; Emma Borslien, Crookston MN; Evie Hruby, Thief River Falls, MN.
Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; one infant daughter Connie Rose; his parents; one brother Carl Bondley and his wife June; one sister Annette Carlson and her husband Ralph; and two brothers-in-law Gilmore Borslien and Richard Hruby.
