A Hennepin County jury has convicted a Minneapolis man of stabbing his friend to death in a downtown parking ramp.
Jurors deliberated about six hours before convicting 29-year-old Kevin Lamont Mims of second-degree murder Thursday.
According to the complaint, Mims picked up three friends last September and they went to a club. The four returned to the car parked in the ramp when Mims began to argue with his front-seat passenger and started hitting him.
Twenty-year-old Brian Dean Nelson of St. Paul climbed out of the backseat and tried to break up the fight. Nelson was stabbed twice with a scissors — once in the heart — and died.
The jury also convicted Mims of second-degree assault for stabbing a second man.
Sentencing is set for March 1.
