As a result of severe spring flooding in parts of the state, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is offering Flood and Severe Storm Relief Assistance through July to Veterans and their families in the following counties: Becker, Beltrami, Chippewa, Clay, Clearwater, Cook, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Kittson, Lac Qui Parle, Lake, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Otter Tail, Pennington, Polk, Pope, Red Lake, Roseau, Stevens, Swift, Traverse, Wadena, Wilkin and Yellow Medicine.
A single veteran or surviving spouse of a veteran is eligible for reimbursement assistance funds of up to $300. If the veteran is married or has at least one dependent child, or if the surviving spouse has at least one dependent child, he or she will be eligible for a reimbursement of up to $600.
Applications for this program must be made through the respective County Veterans Service Officer (CVSO). For CVSO contact information, visit www.minnesotaveteran.org or call 1-888-LINKVET (546-5838). All eligible receipts must be dated between March 20, 2009 and June 30, 2009. Applications must be postmarked by July 31, 2009. However, due to limited funding, the program will end July 31 or earlier if the funds are exhausted.
