The University of Minnesota Crookston is hosting its fourth annual Game Design Camp this week. The camp is under the direction of David DeMuth, Jr., Ph.D., and will run through Saturday, June 27.
The camp trains gamers with commercial game development software while allowing campers to have some fun with game tournaments and LAN parties. The software used at the camp includes Autodesk Maya, 3D Studio Max, GameMaker, and UnrealEd, a commercial program which allows users to create levels for the computer game Unreal. Those attending are also shown a presentation detailing the history of video games. While attending, campers have the evenings free to socialize and attend midnight showings of particular blockbuster films in town.
Crookston High School Class of 2008 graduate Sam Wolpert has been teaching at the camp. Wolpert attended the University of California Santa Cruz this past year, and will continue studying in the major of game design later this August.
