Come Friday evening, eight Crookston High School seniors will anxiously gather onstage in hopes of receiving one of several awards and, ultimately, being on the receiving end when Miss Crookston 2010 Michelle Stahlecker gently places the tiara on the head of the new Miss Crookston. The Miss Crookston Scholarship Pageant will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 in the CHS auditorium. Tickets went on sale at noon today, and if there are any remaining they will be available at Crookston Floral for $8 apiece.

Four contestants are profiled here; the other four were profiled in Monday's Times.

Alexandra Regeimbal
Q: First of all, some background info: Your family – parents, grandparents, siblings, dogs, cats, whomever you wish to include; your talent; and your sponsors

A: My mother is Paulette Wagner and my father is David Regeimbal. My grandma is Milly Regeimbal and I love spending afternoons with her looking at old pictures hearing the stories behind them. I'm the youngest of four children, two older sisters Colette and Heidi, and an older brother, Nick. For my talent, I will be playing the piano. I've studied piano with Mary Jane Kurpis-Brock for 12 years and it is truly a passion. I'm being sponsored by Dottie and Paul Peterson and the Crookston Dairy Queen, my place of employment. This is my second summer working there and it is a fun summer job.

Q: What activities are you involved in at school and elsewhere? Have you received any awards or special recognition for your accomplishments?

A:  I am involved in band, orchestra and choir along with soccer and dance line. Outside of school I'm in piano and vocal lessons. This spring, I was inducted into the National Honor Society and participated in UND Honor Orchestra.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: When I have spare time, I like to read, watch murder mysteries with my mom, discover new music and experiment with new recipes.

Q: What would you consider your big passion in life?

A: Hands down, my passion is music. Right now my game plan is to go to university majoring in music, with an emphasis on musicology.

Q: On the flip side, is there something you really detest?

A: I've never been a big fan of math, peas or spiders. I've grown to love other vegetables (no pun intended), but I've never been able to eat peas without grimacing.

Q: What are your plans after high school, and how do you see yourself in ten years?

A: Ten years from now, I see myself teaching music history courses in a university. My goal is to get my Ph.D. in music history and literature.

Q: Explain your platform.

A: Natural Nourishment is my platform. There are a lot of times that we reach for a bag of potato chips, when we could just as easily snatch a bag of carrots from the refrigerator. In today’s food market, products are designed to be tasty rather than healthy, loaded with chemical preservatives and additives that build up toxins in your body negatively affecting your long and short term health. I’ve chosen this platform because healthy eating is essential to a healthy life and Crookston is an agricultural community, so we need to take advantage of the opportunity to eat locally and naturally. Given the opportunity I would integrate a healthier, more natural, produce and meals into our schools.

Q: What do you hope to take away from the Miss Crookston experience?

A: After Miss Crookston, I hope I'll be able to walk with a bit more confidence and I want to present my thoughts and ideas clearly.

Mary Phalen
Q:  First of all, some background info: Your family – parents, grandparents, siblings, dogs, cats, whomever you wish to include; your talent; and your sponsors

A:  I am the daughter of Bill and Helen Phalen, and have an older sister named Anna. I am sponsored by the Crookston Times. For my talent I chose to play piano.

Q:  What activities are you involved in at school and elsewhere? Have you received any awards or special recognition for your accomplishments?

A:  While in high school I've enjoyed being on the dance team, playing my cello in our school orchestra, skating on a competitive figure skating team, and being a member of our local Polk County 4-H club. While in 4-H I have entered crafts, photography, and plants to be judged at the county fair. I have won several ribbons over the years and have had items make it to "state." Aside from entering items in the fair, I am also President of our local 4-H group.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A:  In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my friends, or being outdoors. Sewing and scrapbooking are also one of my favorite things to do (I have already been busy working on my senior scrapbook for Mr. Davidson's class). I have 4 pets which also keep me busy in my spare time. I have a cat Cleo, a rabbit Adele, a dog Leo, and Cha-Chi our guinea pig.

Q:  What would you consider your big passion in life?

A:  For me, I have always tried to live my life to the fullest everyday. Living life with no regrets is what I would consider to be my passion. I feel that with every mistake we make there is a chance to learn something. Whether the mistake is big or small there is a lesson learned and knowledge gained. There is a saying, "youth is wasted on the young," I try to remember that because you only get one life to live, so you had better make it worth it. Life, for me, isn't filled with regrets, it is filled with many lessons and fresh opportunities.

Q:  On the flip side, is there something you really detest?

A: I wouldn't say I detest anything, but something that is a little disappointing for me is when people fail to reach their fullest potential. I feel very strongly about embracing the talents and opportunities we are offered. I find it a shame when people set the bar too low for themselves. We are all capable of amazing things, whether they are big or small isn't important. What is important to me is that they aren't wasted.

Q: What are your plans after high school, and how do you see yourself in ten years?

A: After high school I plan on going to college. I haven't fully decided on which college yet, but I know once I do I will love it! I want to major in social work, or chemical dependency counseling. I want to pick a career that will help people and be a rewarding experience for me.

Q: Explain your platform.

A: My platform is "Role Up Your Sleeve & Save A Life." It is a platform that stresses the importance of blood donation. Every THREE seconds in the U.S. someone is in need of blood. I feel blood donation is one of the most important things we can do for one another. With every one donation you have the opportunity to save the lives of up to three people! I want to encourage everyone that can donate blood to get out there and save lives!

Q: What do you hope to take away from the Miss Crookston experience?

A: I wanted to enter Miss Crookston because it sounded like a fun time to spend with my classmates before we all go our separate ways after high school. In addition, Miss Crookston seemed like it would be a great experience and memory for me to have in high school, as well as a great learning experience. It has already been so much fun spending time with all of the girls and getting to know them all so much better. We have all learned a lot. I hope I will walk away from this experience having more confidence in myself and my abilities, and memories that I can remember the rest of my life.

Kristin Goosen
Q: First of all, some background info: Your family – parents, grandparents, siblings, dogs, cats, whomever you wish to include; your talent; and your sponsors

A: I'm the daughter of Kim and Lynette Goosen, and the granddaughter of Dave and Linda Goosen and Barb Nordine. I have one sister Nicole, who's 13, and a puppy, Bingley. I'm doing a monologue and my sponsor is STRATA Corp.

Q: What activities are you involved in at school and elsewhere? Have you received any awards or special recognition for your accomplishments?

A:  I'm in volleyball, softball, LEO Club, and teach Sunday School at Trinity Lutheran Church. If a job counts as an activity, I work at Thrifty White. I've lettered for managing girls basketball (though I didn't even know you could letter as a manager when I started) and academically.

Q:  What do you like to do in your spare time?

A:  Lots of things! Are you looking for the full list? Here's the main ones: I hang out with friends, read, write, go on walks (shout out to my walking buddy!), and if I have enough spare time I like going to the lake in the summer.

Q:  What would you consider your big passion in life?

A:  I guess I don't have one specific "passion" yet. I suppose I just like to be passionate and enthusiastic about anything I do, whether it be with volunteering, school, etc...

Q:  On the flip side, is there something you really detest?

A:  My serious answer: I really dislike the uncertainty in life and how everything can change and not end up as I expect. The thing I legitimately detest above all things: Clothing tags. Why were they even necessary to invent? Sometimes I swear it's just to bother me when they stick out.

Q:  What are your plans after high school, and how do you see yourself in ten years?

A:  After high school I plan to go to a university (which one is still undecided. There's too many choices) for a still undetermined major. I'm leaning towards something in humanities, but knowing me that will probably change soon. In 10 years I could really be anywhere. I'd like to have graduated college, found a great job that I love, gotten married, and adopted some kids. Maybe that's more of a 15-year plan, I'm not sure. Anyway, that's the dream.

Q:  Explain your platform.

A:  My platform is "Be a Role Model". I chose it because, as an older sister to an impressionable 13-year old, I feel strongly about setting a good example for the kids looking up to you. When deciding whether or not to do something, I don't think the standard "What would Grandma say?" but rather, "What would I do if I caught Nicole doing that?" Kids, especially the younger grades at the high school, have a tendency to try to imitate what they see the elder classmen doing. I reel like we should all make more of an effort to showcase our good behavior and teach them how to become the best people they can be. By changing ourselves for the better, I believe it will change them as well.

Q: What do you hope to take away from the Miss Crookston experience?

A:  I hope to take away stronger friendships with my fellow contestants and great, new memories that'll last a lifetime.

I guess that's me in a nutshell.

Kailey Mykleseth
Q: First of all, some background info: Your family – parents, grandparents, siblings, dogs, cats, whomever you wish to include; your talent; and your sponsors

A: My parents are Keith and Gina Mykleseth, I am the second oldest out of six kids: Dan 18, Kailey (me) 17, Tom 14, Sara 11, Eric 10, and Julia 3. I will be singing while playing the piano and my sponsor is Happy Joe's.

Q:  What activities are you involved in at school and elsewhere? Have you received any awards or special recognition for your accomplishments?

A:  I have attended Girls State, All-State Choir, and RYLA. I am involved in drama and pop choir at the High School and in the National Honors Society.

Q:  What do you like to do in your spare time?

A:  I like to read, work in my garden and play Kakuro.

Q:  What would you consider your big passion in life?

A:  My passion in my life would have to be my Faith.

Q:  On the flip side, is there something you really detest?

A:  I strongly dislike when there are not enough marshmallows in hot cocoa packets.

Q:  What are your plans after high school, and how do you see yourself in ten years?

A:  After High School I plan on going to college and major in biochemistry then get my masters in pharmacy. In ten years I hope to be a pharmacist married to a man that absolutely loves lots of kids and pets.

Q:  Explain your platform.

A:  My platform is animal adoption, I choose this platform when I found out that 60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats that go into shelters get euthanized.

Q:  What do you hope to take away from the Miss Crookston experience?

A:  I hope that I become good friends with all of the wonderful girls in this pageant.
