State lawmakers are checking up on a redesigned health care program for vulnerable adults.

House members from both parties visit Regions Hospital in St. Paul on Tuesday to see how the new General Assistance Medical Care program is working.

Only four hospitals are participating in the new program after the state slashed their payments under a compromise between Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty and majority Democrats in the Legislature. The changes have made it harder for low-income adults in greater Minnesota to get regular medical care.

The lawmakers are holding a forum to hear from hospital administrators, community groups and social service agencies.
