After taking some time to “digest” what they heard from concerned and opposed Crookston residents at their previous meeting in late January, the Crookston City Council this evening will once again consider a proposal to use special service district “flood fund” money to finance Community Development Director Mike MacDonald’s position, which focuses almost entirely on flood control efforts in the community.

The proposal, put forth by City Administrator Aaron Parrish to save the general fund approximately $90,000 a year in advance of anticipated state funding reductions and local budget tightening, was recommended for council approval by the Finance Committee.

Going into the council’s Jan. 27 meeting, it appeared a majority of council members were in favor of the budget shift. But, after a contingent of Sampson’s Addition residents made their opposition clear, the council voted to table the resolution until tonight, to give everyone time to consider what they’d heard.

The council meets at 7 p.m. in the city hall council chambers.
