MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — A Mandan man accused of assaulting his female neighbor and restraining her with duct tape has been sentenced to serve 13 years in prison.
Fifty-three-year-old Robert Gray on Wednesday changed his plea to guilty on felony charges and said he was sorry for what happened last Jan. 27.
Authorities say Gray assaulted his 21-year-old neighbor, broke one of her teeth and choked her after they watched television together in his apartment, then bound her with duct tape. Gray suffered a self-inflicted wound to his throat during a standoff with police officers who came to arrest him.
Gray underwent a psychological evaluation. Defense attorney Carey Goetz said Gray has a mental illness but was deemed competent.
