An evasive maneuver by a Bemidji woman with her infant son in their vehicle prevented what turned out to be a minor accident from being potentially much worse early Saturday evening on U.S. Highway 2 west of Mentor.

The other vehicle involved, according to the Minnesota State Patrol, was going the wrong way, traveling westbound in the eastbound lane. The vehicles sideswiped each other, causing minor damage to both, and none of the three people involved suffered any apparent injuries.

The accident was reported at 5:29 p.m. Saturday at milepost 47 west of Mentor. Debra  R. Ladouceur, 56, of Grafton, N.D. was driving a Chevrolet (model unknown) the wrong way on Highway 2. Megan L. Murray, 23, of Bemidji was eastbound in a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche, with her baby son, Aiden, a passenger. She swerved to miss Ladouceur’s vehicle, and they sideswiped.

All three were buckled up.

The investigation continues.
