BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's secretary of state will be running for re-election on a broken right ankle for the next six weeks.

Al Jaeger hurt himself when he slipped on some ice. He had surgery on Tuesday to have two screws put into the ankle.

Jaeger is seeking re-election this year. North Dakota Republicans are expected to endorse him at their state convention in Grand Forks in two weeks. He was first elected to the job in 1992.

The 66-year-old Jaeger is using a four-wheeled rolling walker and crutches to get around. He says he wasn't planning a big convention show anyway, but he says getting on the convention stage could be tricky.
