After a delay of more than a year, remodeling on the Polk County Government Center will soon begin. Bids were opened at the county commissioners' meeting Tuesday, with Innes Construction of Grand Forks awarded the bid.
County Coordinator Jack Schmalenberg said the company came in with the low bid of $511,000. The county received seven bid submissions. Bids were also awarded for asbestos abatement and ceiling work for approximately $70,000, bringing the project total to about $580,000. Work should begin in January and be completed around mid-May.
Renovations to the 40-year-old former courthouse include transforming the third-floor courtrooms into social services office space for approximately 50 people currently located in East Grand Forks and Crookston. A one-stop service center encompassing the assessor, recorder and auditor-treasurer's offices will be incorporated into the second floor. The work also includes mechanical upgrades and updating the heating system.
