GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The Alerus Center in Grand Forks earned a big profit in October that cut the facility's year-to-date losses by more than half.

Executive Director Steve Hyman says the $271,000 the Alerus Center netted last month was the most it has earned in any month. The finances got a boost from four University of North Dakota football games, a Larry the Cable Guy show and several conferences.

Hyman says the facility began October $508,000 in the red and now is in the red by only $237,200.
Hyman earlier had projected an annual loss of $123,000 but says he now hopes the amount will be smaller.
