MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minneapolis couple is now charged with child neglect and endangerment after their newborn boy was found crying in a hot car.
Police arrested 35-year-old Rosa Dejesus Perez-Siguencia and 34-year-old Angel Rigoberto Garcia-Tapia on Tuesday. Their 6-week-old baby was found strapped in the couple’s car in sweltering heat while they shopped at a Minneapolis pharmacy.
Temperatures that day were climbing into the 90s. Police say the air inside the car was 111 degrees. Police removed the child from a back window that was rolled down about 6 inches.
Police say the baby was alone for about 20 minutes. The baby was taken to a hospital and appears to have fully recovered.
The couple remained in the Hennepin County Jail on Thursday. The charges are gross misdemeanors.
