Longtime Crookston Businessman Dick Maves has made a unique donation to the United Way of Crookston: his remaining inventory from Maves Hallmark Store, which he closed several months ago. The organization will, in turn, have a “blowout sale” on Tuesday and Wednesday, with all proceeds going to United Way.

“We are very grateful for this great gift,” said United Way Executive Director Lori Wagner. “Everyone is invited to stop out and support your local United Way while also getting some bargains.”

The sale is at the former store location on Second Street, next to the Chamber Building, and runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 29 and 30. Wagner said most of the inventory consists of cards that cover all occasions, grouped into bags selling for $5 for 10 cards, with values of $30 or more.  If you purchase four packages, you'll receive a free gift. Miscellaneous gift items and general merchandise will also be sold in grab bags, $3 for a collection of items with an approximate value of $40 and $5 for bags holding goodies valued at around $60.

“Everybody loves grab bags and anxiously opening them to see what's in them,” said Wagner. “This is your chance to stock up on them in the summer.”

Other items available include Precious Moments and other figurines, picture frames, wall hangings, ornaments and a variety of other merchandise. Store fixtures are also for sale. Those who visit the store can register for a mega gift basket to be given away.

Hurry in for the best selection, though, as a steady stream of customers was helping to clear the shelves Tuesday morning.
