Four more inches of snow could fall today as blizzard conditions commence
Well, the first phase of a two-day winter storm looks like it lived up to the hype, and now National Weather Service forecasters are predicting that the second and final phase will, too.
A winter storm warning that kicked in at noon Wednesday expired at noon on Thursday, replaced by a blizzard warning that the NWS says will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Friday.
Several inches of snow fell on Crookston and the surrounding region Thursday and overnight into Friday, and forecasters say up to four additional inches could fall before the snow tapers off later on Thursday. All of the new snow will be blown around by north winds gusting up to as high as 50 miles per hour, making travel nearly impossible, especially in open areas with the decreased visibility.
Wind chills are expected to be in the 30 below zero range at the height of the blizzard.
