Two-day Crookston event an expansion of Chalk-It Up.
The first annual Queen City Art Festival at the corner of Second Street and North Main in downtown Crookston Friday and Saturday, an expansion of the Chalk-It Up event, was a hit.
Downtown Crookston Development Partnership Board member Colleen MacRae says everyone was smiling when the event wrapped up Saturday afternoon.
“An amazing weekend was spent creating art, making bubbles, shopping, listening to music and eating at this weekend's Queen City Art Festival, featuring Chalk-it-Up,” MacRae tells the Times.
Featured artists over the two days included Allison Severson, Meg and Matt Peterson, Katelyn and Gary Stegman, Andrew Svec, Lance Lessard, Jada Violette and Trey Everett.
Community members were also invited to grab some chalk, pick a patch of parking lot and "Chalk-it-Up" in the Wayne Hotel parking lot. Special appearances were made by 2018 Miss Crookston Thea Oman, 2018 Junior Miss Crookston Brynn Olson, 2018 Little Miss Crookston Kayelynn Volker, and 2018 Miss Northern Lakes Muira MacRae.
Several awards were made by One Vegetable, One Community with cash prizes made to Gracie Niere of Woodbury, Minn.; Halle Vigstel of Red Lake Falls, and the Follette family of Crookston for their artwork.
Elizabeth Rockstad of Studio 4:13 encouraged community members to help in her creation of a mosaic and Nicole Gagner of Painter Nicole helped others in making a water-color painting. Both pieces of art were donated to the DCDP, MacRae said, and will be seen as part of a travelling exhibit around downtown in the near future.
“Many folks came together to help make the first ever Queen City Arts Festival and the third Chalk-it-Up event a wonderful occasion,” MacRae said.
She added that committee members from The Arts Festival, Chalk-it-Up and DCDP “extend warmest thanks to all who contributed,” including community members, visitors, Driftwood Grill, Drafts, Rhombus, 104.3 Radio, Totally Betty, Diane Seddon, Essential Oil Bracelets, Nick Urlaub Art, Studio 4:13 Mosaics, Rogue Soprano Studio, Painter Nicole, Prairie Folk Supply, Drops In Time Red Lake River Creations, Phil Barton, City of Crookston staff, CVB, Kay Oien, Larrisa K-Brock, Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, KROX Radio, Crookston Daily Times, One Vegetable - One Community, Rae French and friends, visiting "royalty,” and the event’s featured artists.
