Two Grand Forks police officers have been cleared in a fatal shooting.

Officers Michael Ruit and Jorgan Drees have been on administrative leave since last month's shooting death of 41-year-old John Murphy.

He was shot after the officers responded to a report of a suicidal man with a gun.

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation concluded that Murphy refused orders to drop the gun. KFGO reports body camera footage showed that the officers gave loud commands for 8 minutes before the first shot was fired.

Grand Forks police have said Murphy was armed, but never fired his weapon before he was killed.

The Grand Forks County State's Attorney reviewed the report and determined that the shooting was justified.
