CHS graduate one of 12 selected from northwest Minnesota

Cade Salentine, a 2018 Crookston High School graduate and football stand-out, has been selected to play in the North Dakota Shrine Bowl Saturday, July 14 at 4 p.m. at Shanley High School in Fargo, North Dakota.

Salentine will play for the 11-Man West team.

“We are very proud of him as this is quite an honor to be asked,” Salentine’s mother, Emily, told the Times.

As a senior, Cade had 203 carries for 1,563 yards in nine games, 19 touchdowns, and scored 119 defensive points including two interceptions.

Salentine will be attending the University of North Dakota this fall and playing football for the Fighting Hawks.

“It kinda came as a surprise because I had no idea when or who got selected,” Saletine said about the ND Shrine Bowl. “I just thought it was really cool because I will get a chance to play with a few other incoming freshman to UND.”

“I think this will help me for next year to be able to see competition of athletes that have that same drive for football as I do, and be able to work with a skilled lineup of individuals,” he added. “I think it will be a great experience to get me some more time in football before fall camp.”

Mayville State University is hosting the players and coaches during their week of training prior to the game. The 132 members of the East and West 9-man and 11-man teams and their 16 coaches will practice at the Mayville State practice fields and Jerome Berg Field.

Shrine game players and coaches will arrive at Mayville State Monday, July 9 and check out the morning of July 14.

The North Dakota Shrine Bowl is sponsored by the Kem and El Zagal Temples of Grand Forks and Fargo, N.D. This marks the 45th annual Shrine Bowl. Teams are made up of 120 athletes from North Dakota and 12 from northwest Minnesota.

Selections were based on the coaches’ respective 2017 seasons.

The 11-man game is scheduled for 4 p.m. and 9-man at 7 p.m. Television coverage provided by BEK TV.
