Note to readers: In Jeremy Olson’s previous school districts in which he’s served as superintendent, he’s made it a practice to write periodic articles in the local newspaper to keep people informed on the latest things happening in the district, and other topics he feels are relevant. He wants to do the same thing in Crookston, so what follows is Olsons’ first submission since he started as Crookston School District superintendent. Although future submissions likely won’t appear on the front page of the Times, we figured this first one should be placed in particular prominent fashion.

Greetings from Crookston School District! My name is Jeremy Olson and I am proud to be the newly hired Superintendent for Crookston School District. Community connections are very important to me as I believe that everything we do needs to be transparent and in collaboration with our community. A strong, vibrant, and prospering Crookston equates to a strong and vibrant school district.

This year will mark the beginning of my eleventh year as a Superintendent. I made the decision to accept this position at Crookston School because I believe that this district has great potential and that together we can accomplish great things. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to help lead Crookston School District as we start to look toward the future. We are not without our challenges; however, with your help and support we are poised to do some amazing things!

Over the coming weeks and months, my plan is to learn as much as I can about the operations of the school district and start assessing what is going well and what things we need to adjust. While stagnation is extremely unhealthy, so too is change devoid of purpose or information. Change can be difficult, however, change with purpose can also be extremely healthy for organizations. We want to move forward with intentionality and purpose.

On a personal note, I am blessed to be married to my wife Becky and have four beautiful daughters: Naomi (11), Abby (9), Lydia (9), and Anna (6). My wife and daughters have been very busy taking in the benefits of living in Crookston. They have enjoyed the splash park, city parks, bike trails, and various activities that Crookston has to offer. I have enjoyed rekindling my passion for running which is taking a bit more effort than it did a decade ago. My family and I also enjoy skiing and tubing at the lake as well as spending time outdoors during these beautiful summer days! We could not be more happy with the friendliness of the many people we have already met and look forward to meeting many more people in the coming weeks and months.

Lastly, I want to let you know that my door is always open to you. Please do not hesitate to drop by the District Office to see me. I would ask that anyone stopping by call first so that I know you are coming as there will be several times where I will be out of the office for various meetings. Feel free to email me at Jeremyolson@isd593.org or call 218-770-8717 if you would like to connect. Also, if you would like to follow along with what is happening at Crookston School District feel free to follow my twitter feed @Crookstonsupt for timely updates and information. I look forward to connecting with you soon. Pirate Pride!
