The Vocal Ensemble Contest was held at East Grand Forks Senior High on Wednesday, March 28th.      

   There were eighteen students from Crookston High School that participated in the contest. Eight separate ensembles performed and all of them earned stars! Five ensembles received double stars, a Superior performance, and three received single stars, an Excellent performance. The students also earned two perfect scores, one Best of the Day and two Honorable Mentions. 

    Choral instructor Belinda Fjeld accompanied the ensembles and the judges were Deland Elseth, Sheila Nelson, and Will Sekoya.

    The individual ensembles, their ratings and students involved are listed below:

    “Only Hope” – Mixed Ensemble – Superior Rating, a Double Star, Perfect Score and selected Best of the Day in their site by Judge Deland Elseth. Karlie Brekken, Anna Huck, Eliza Meyer, Sarah Pahlen, Gabe Monteith, Zach Sanders, and Cameron Weiland.

    “Something to Believe In” – Duet – Superior Rating, a Double Star, Perfect Score and selected as Honorable Mention in their site by Judge Sheila Nelson. Anna Huck and Zach Sanders.

    “A Thousand Years & Bohemian Rhapsody” – CHS Pop Choir – Superior Rating and selected as Honorable Mention in their site by Judge Will Sekoya. Blaine Asman, Anna Huck, Cyle Keim, Eliza Meyer, Justin Pietruszewski, Victoria Proulx, Sarah Ryan, Zach Sanders, Grace Steiner, Makayla Tate, and Jessica Willits.

    “For Good” – Duet – Superior Rating, a Double Star, Victoria Proulx & Jessica Willits

    “Castle on a Cloud” – Mixed Ensemble – Superior Rating, a Double Star; Blaine Asman, Victoria Proulx, Sarah Ryan, Makayla Tate and Jessica Willits.

    “Didn’t My Lord” – Mens Ensemble – Excellent rating, a Single Star; Grayson Altepeter, Blaine Asman, Jaxon Hebert, Cyle Keim, Gabe Monteith, Justin Pietruszewski, and Zach Sanders.

    “Gaelic Blessing” – Girls Ensemble – Excellent rating, a Single Star; Karlie Brekken, Anna Huck, Eliza Meyer, Sarah Pahlen, Sarah Ryan, Grace Steiner, Makayla Tate, and Gina Visness.

    “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” – Duet – Excellent rating, Cyle Keim & Makayla Tate

    Other schools participating in the contest included Climax/Shelley, East Grand Forks, Fisher, Red Lake Falls, Red Lake County Central, Sacred Heart and Warren/Alverado/Oslo.
