A Bismarck man accused of firing a shotgun at a law enforcement officer in 2015 has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

The Bismarck Tribune reports 38-year-old Branden Lyon was sentenced Monday in South Central District Court.

A jury in October convicted Lyon of attempted murder, terrorizing and illegally possessing a weapon related to a 15-hour standoff with police.

Judge Bruce Haskell cited Lyon's lengthy and violent criminal history in handing down the life sentence.
