A house fire broke out on Crookston's north end early Sunday morning and a body was later found inside the home. The victim has been transported to the University of North Dakota Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Crookston Police Department Chief Paul Biermaier says at approximately 2:33 a.m. on Sunday, March 4, the Crookston Fire and Police Departments, with Crookston Area Ambulance, were dispatched to the 200 block of 4th Avenue North on a report of a house fire. After the fire was extinguished is when the body was found.

A name is not being released until an identity can be confirmed and family is notified.

Biermaier says the State Fire Marshal was on scene Sunday morning and the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. The damage to the home is extensive and windows are now boarded up.

No further details are available at this time and the Polk County Sheriff's Office dispatchers and deputies assisted in the incident.
