Autopsy will help determine positive identification.
Firefighters discovered a body after putting out a fire Saturday evening in rural Winger, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reports. The body has been transported to the UND Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and the name will not be released until a positive identification can be made.
The call came in at 8:24 p.m. Feb. 24 from 18354 460th St. SE in rural Winger. When firefighters arrived there were actually two separate fires, one at a shop and one at the residence at the address. Once the fires were extinguished, the body was found inside the residence.
No foul play is suspected, although the investigation continues.
Firefighters from Winger, Fertile, Erskine, Mahnomen and Gary responded to the call.
