Participants spent 16 weeks learning

The 2017-18 Leadership Crookston class recently finished their leadership program with a graduation lunch at the Cobblestone Hotel & Suites, catered by Wonderful Life Foods.

The eight-session program is designed to enhance awareness of the Crookston business community while also helping participants build skills and knowledge both personally and professionally to allow them to be more effective at work and in the community.

Participants spent eight weeks, from October to January, working on a group service project relating to this year’s theme of “Belong in Crookston.” Over the course of the program, they learned about specifics areas within the community including: Health & Wellness (Session 1), Culture & History (Session 2), Agriculture in the Red River Valley (Session 3), Economic & Entrepreneurial Development (Session 4), Education (Session 5), Community Safety (Session 6), Government & Media (Session 7), and Service & Vision (Session 8.)

Presentations were made at the final session as teams showcased their service projects in the community as well as performed a large group service project at the Care & Share of Crookston.

The goal of the program is to help participants contribute to their organization and community by creating connections with other community leaders, building networks, identifying and discussing current community concerns, and by preparing them to assume “the leadership roles of tomorrow.”

“Thank you to the businesses and organizations that continue to support the Chamber’s leadership program and enrolled representatives this year including: RiverView Health, Crookston Eye Clinic, University of Minnesota Crookston, Level 5 Services, City of Crookston & Crookston Parks & Recreation, Villa St. Vincent, American Federal Bank, and Altru Clinic of Crookston,” said Crookston Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Amanda Lien. “Thank you to the Growth & Development planning committee members including Co-Chairs Crystal Maruska & Carmen Knutson, Amy Larson, Tracy Kuchan, Stephen Larson & Kyle Page.”
